Based on my understanding, Mileage Stats uses the BBQ plug-in to manage the browser's history in a uniform manner that works across all browsers. As jQuery BBq provides leverage to the hashchange event plugin to create a normalized, cross-browser window.onhashchange event that enables very powerful but easy to use location.hash state / history and bookmarking.

Additionaly, jQuery BBQ provides a full deparam method, along with both hash state management, and fragment / query string parse and merge utility methods.
